The Lowcountry Area Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers FREE income tax preparation.  In collaboration with the IRS and many local partners, the Lowcountry Area VITA Coalition assists working individuals and families who generally make $54,000 or less, the elderly, and limited English speaking taxpayers file their federal and state tax returns.
Last year 46 IRS-certified volunteers spent 3,008 hours preparing 2,197 tax returns.  In total, $3,035,871 were returned to local taxpayers' pockets, not to mention the money saved in tax preparation services!
